ABOUTmeJune2018.png

My patients appreciate the warm, affirming, and engaging approach to treatment that has come to define my practice.  I use diagnosis as a guidepost for discussion, and for evidenced-based recommendations.   However, I believe strongly that diagnosis should not define you, or the work that we do together.  I want to understand you as a person, your values, and your goals, so that we can collaboratively design a treatment plan that helps you to go beyond symptom management, to obtain your optimal sense of well-being and performance.

I am trained as a psychiatrist and as a neuroscientist. In my experience teaching advanced psychopharmacology and clinical neuroscience to Psychiatry Residents, I have been on the forefront of a recent movement to integrate a modern neuroscience perspective into mental health diagnosis and treatment.   I am a frequent speaker for patients, educators, clinicians, and clergy, on the principles of brain function, and what this means for medical, psychological, and spiritual approaches to mental illness.

In addition to providing you with the most up-to-date, evidence-based practices in pharmacology and psychotherapy, I have the biological literacy to help you understand your brain. I work collaboratively with you to use this information to create a holistic treatment approach that integrates brain, body, and spirit.
